“Youths are our arrows to the future” as rightly stated by Ifeanyi Enoch Onuoha, Nigerian educator and bestselling author.

The Young Concrete Researchers, Engineers & Technologists symposium (YCRETS) will bring together young individuals who work on the development, design and application of concrete and cementitious based materials, in Southern Africa. The concept was initiated to champion young researchers, technologists and engineers as the future leaders in the engineering and construction industry. In addition to this, southern Africa is been promoted as a place of cutting-edge research, innovation and engineering excellence.

To date we have received 45 abstracts from different disciplines in concrete which showcase and discuss pertinent concrete research and concerns. Presenters at the event will be individuals who are 35 years (in 2021) or younger.

The event was initially structured to allow the delegates attending this symposium to contribute, learn and network. However, considering the global context of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the symposium has been shifted from a physical gathering and will now be hosted online .

As part of the symposium, the “Young Concrete Researcher Award” will be presented. This award recognises and gives credit to young researchers who are making a significant contribution to the advancement of their field through research excellence, at an early stage in their career.

The scientific committee for YCRETS comprises academics and experts from South Africa, India, and Germany.
